Separation Anxiety– What is there to know about this form of anxiety? What is normal and developmentally appropriate and when does it become a disorder or an obstacle that is difficult to overcome?
These are questions we may ask ourselves when we work in the classroom or with our own children who are clingy, have unrealistic worries about loved ones or start to show physical signs of illness every time ‘something’ happens, to name a few. There are many symptoms of Separation Anxiety Disorder that are often mistaken for bad behavior, immaturity or other disorders. It is important to recognise the signs and assist these children at home and in the classroom.
